SWINGING ON A STAR
(THE JOHNNY BURKE MUSICAL)
by Michael Leeds
July 11 - July 29, 2012

Age: It's only a number! BOOMER GIRL takes a fresh, funny, and sometimes poignant look at one woman working out the math when the digits involved are "5" and "0"! With book and lyrics by Jan Neuberger and music by Ben Cohn, the show has delighted audiences at New York City cabarets Don't Tell Mama and Mama Rose and at Connecticut's Ivoryton Playhouse. Jan, the Boomer Girl in question, is a veteran of decades of work on stages from Broadway, where she most recently appeared in WICKED and HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (Grandma Who!), to our very own Playhouse on Park, where she starred as Kate in last season's BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS. Now an undergraduate Creative Writing major at Trinity College-you never know where life's going to take you-Jan is on track to graduate with the class of '13! Yes, 50 is only a number, but it's one with unique resonance for a whole generation-and we're just getting started!

JAN NEUBERGER was a member of the original cast of WICKED, delivering the green baby nightly and stepping in frequently as Madame Morrible. Also on Broadway: Original casts of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (Grandma Who); BIG (Miss Watson); A CHANGE IN THE HEIR (Martha); and the 1974 revival of GYPSY starring Angela Lansbury. A member of the cast of KRISTINA, an epic musical by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson, Jan performed under the baton of Broadway legend Paul Gemignani on the stages of Carnegie Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall and can be heard on the live recording. In the course of her 37-year career, she has done everything from Off-Broadway to regional theatre to summer stock, concert work and more. Connecticut audiences are familiar with her from numerous productions at the Goodspeed Opera; Connecticut Repertory Theatre, the Ivoryton Playhouse, Seven Angels, Playhouse on Park, and the Downtown Cabaret. A Newtown resident since 1996, Jan is currently an undergraduate English major at Trinity College.
