New Play Readings and Workshops
2011 - 2012

New Work Series Playhouse on Park is dedicated to giving a voice to new playwrights. We have two great new plays by Connecticut artists on our calendar. Both being presented in a workshop format. In a workshop, the audience is a part of the development process. After each performance there will be a talk back with the playwright and director and the audience will be offered the opportunity to complete a response card

THE CLOWNS
A Rock Opera by Andy Mayo and Matthew Dicks

It’s a plot fit for an opera: MC is a hopeless geek who can’t get a date. Jake is a rock star who can’t get a record deal. Gwin is the singer he wants to impress, but Lily is the girlfriend who wants his attention. Now MC has always loved Lily, but Xavi is the flame that lights her candle. Tabar is the schemer who rats them out, while Turi is the jilted lover who struggles to keep it all in perspective. Join these rock-star wannabes as they sort it all out at a battle of the bands, featuring a straight-up rock score based on the music of actual opera arias.

Other Playhouse on Park Series

In addition we offer a eight play Main Stage Series of plays and musicals. Our eight play Main Stage Series is comprised of both plays and musicals including: the laugh out loud farces of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS and THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP; the power and profound classics GOLDA'S BALCONY and THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE;  the beauty and wonder of METAMORPHOSES; and the modern musicals COMPANY and SWINGING ON A STAR. Many of our plays and musicals also contain educational components that students of all ages can enjoy.

In addition, our Young Audiences Series presents productions suited to our future theatre sustainers that strives to educate and inspire.
